Subtle Garbage

Subtle Garbage - CommStorm

I’ve driven past this scene hundreds, possibly thousands of times and yet I only noticed it last week.  It’s a scene not far from a highway exit I regularly take.  How do you not notice a junk yard? I was making fun of the city’s attempt to hide the unsightliness with greenery, but clearly they were successful. What does this subtle garbage bring to mind for you?

  1. We have metal recyclers and junk yards all over the place around here. This doesn’t look too different to a common scene that goes unhidden for me.

  2. That pic makes me think of the things we accumulate only to discard. I try not to think about all the waste, but living lightly is one of my biggest priorities and I really wish people would take better care of the planet, etc, etc.

  3. It brings to mind my husband looking for parts for the 2nd car we used to have. I’d go with him just to get out of the house on a Saturday. However, all the junk yards we went to were on back roads.

  4. My late godmother used to be fond of the expression train wreck. We could change it to car wreck. Agree with Jacqueline that’s a good description of the world today. But politicians put a nice spin, geenery, on it and make it sound like say, invading Iraq, was a good idea. Not to mention torture.

  5. It reminds me of the sea if plastic in the ocean that we only see occasionally in pictures.

  6. Given all that has happened in the world in the last few months, weeks and particularly the last few days here in the US, it reminds me of the chaos we seem to be experiencing lately. It feels oddly like this looks….one big car wreck!!! The greenery an unsuccessful attempt to mask yet a reminder that instead of masking we should be solving. Put in a round-about, a traffic light…something!!!! Probably a crazy take on this, but I’m watching the news right now!!
